..........." For US $ 35 per night in this hotel, We travel up to Sapa by the help from Vietnam Royal Tourism, All run well with their arrangement : train ticket, ground transport from Lao Cai Station to Sapa and local guide pick us up at station .
Sapa is not a large place, but many of the hotels are all crowded together on the main drag. This sort of tourist ghetto has its advantages and uses; however, it also creates an atmosphere that is just not....peaceful.
The Thai Binh Sapa, on the other hand, is located in a very quiet and serene part of town. It is a very short walk to anywhere, yet just far enough away from the center of things to have a perfect environment. Location is everything, and this place a perfectly situated.
The room balcony looked over a public walk, and as soon as I opened the shutters I got to see a Black Hmong woman walking with her child.
Hotel Owner runs a very casual hotel that is managed towards the guest's comfort. No hard and fast rules, breakfast whenever you wake up, quick laundry turn around, and great flexibity in check in and out times. The owner also made sure that the rooms were as warm and dry as the climate allowed using electric blankets and auxilary heaters.
Also deserving of kudos was his insistance on hiring local people in his hotel. He made sure that the guides and housekeeping staff were all from the local community. The housekeeping staff, although not English speaking, were still friendly and helpful. It did seem as though the owner had to invest extra time in training and oversight because he did not hire staff trained in hotel management, but in my book he deserves compliments for keeping his business local.
Perhaps housekeeping didn't keep the rooms as clean as possible, but I got the sense that they were learning the business and what expectations guests had. It must be a challange to deliver Western standards with a staff unfamiliar with what that term means, but the owner knows, and I was happy to be understanding while he works through the growing pains.

............"We've very little to add to all the most recent reviews which describe this wonderful hotel, and its owner and staff, perfectly. It really is a little gem in a town with rather a lot of mediocre hotels in Laos that we stayed in on this trip!
Thanks for Vietnam Royal Tourism decided us to stay in this hotel.
It's just a shame that Sapa is on the verge of becoming wrecked by the number of tourists and the effect that this has had on the indigenous population - go soon, before it's too late............."
