.........The Hotel seems to have changed hands a couple of times recently. What was previously the Guoman Hotel, then the M Hotel, is now part of the Movenpick chain. The hotel is being completely refurbished; however unfortunately it is still being worked on (no mention of the hotel's state was made on its website at all, although the attractive US$140++ promotional launch rate should raised my suspicions).
The standard room I stayed in was luxurious, albeit a bit small. When ready, the hotel which is located approx. 5 minutes by taxi from Hoan Kiem Lake and central Hanoi should be a great place to stay for discerning travelers. Right now however entire floors are not ready, and neither is the gym nor the restaurant. There is also constant drilling and construction noise throughout the day (the rooms don't appear to be soundproofed, as early morning Hanoi traffic and incessant honking woke me up each day). The staffs were pleasant though and tried really hard to make up for the hotel's current shortcomings, although I ended up checking out after 2 nights and moving to the year-old InterContinental Westlake.
If you do stay at the Movenpick, be sure to check the Quan An Ngon restaurant about a block from the hotel. It is a well-known Vietnamese restaurant, nicely packaged and offers all kinds of regional Vietnamese food in a great outdoors setting.
