.........Hotel has been largely redone. Rooms in the historic wing are spacious and gorgeous. Bathroom with large tub is spectacular. Service is wonderful. Breakfast at Le Beaulieu is one of the best ever, though expensive.
Hotel Staff upgraded our room and noted that breakfast was now included. Next morning after breakfast we were told that it was not included. Thus, staff has communication problems. Also, the staff at Angelina restaurant not ready for prime time. Order a glass of wine, very expensive, and you get the smallest amount I have ever seen served anywhere. My wife and I laughed when another guest, grabbed the server's arm and had him pour more wine into the glass.
Restaurant: Several good restaurants nearby. The Opera is across the street. It is quite expensive but very good.

On previous stays we were in the old wing which we enjoyed more, despite our upgrade to the executive floor. We liked the high ceilings and dark wood over the marble. Also, our room in the old wing faced the courtyard rather than the street and thus was much quieter. The one benefit of the upgrade was access to the executive lounge and the excellent breakfast that was included.

The Sofitel Metrople as heaps of character and old-world charm, and the level of service by staff is what you would expect of a hotel of this class. Its close proximity to the lake is an asset as it makes for a nice stroll to the old quarter and street markets.
